(18 ene. 1841, Ambert, Puy-de-Dôme, Francia–13 sep. 1894, París).
Compositor francés. Aunque fue un niño prodigio del piano, sus padres lo obligaron a seguir la carrera de leyes y obtener un puesto en el gobierno, pero en 1880 renunció a su trabajo para dedicarse exclusivamente a la composición. Su ópera Gwendoline fue montada varias veces durante su vida, pero jamás logró un éxito rotundo. En el resto de sus obras figuran otras nueve óperas y operetas, entre ellas Le Roi malgré lui (1887), y la rapsodia para orquesta España (1883).
